McKinleyville’s Vera leads local charge at Stanford Invitational

The Humboldt-Del Norte League had a strong showing at the prestigious Stanford Invitational cross country meet on Saturday, with two local runners placing in the top 20 in the boys Division-4 race.

McKinleyville’s Adam Vera was the top finisher from the H-DNL, placing 17th in a time of 16 minutes, 41 seconds.

Fortuna’s Agustin Garcinuno finished just two spots and five seconds back.

It was a good day overall for the Mack runners, with their two other competitors running personal bests at the meet.

West Wood placed 38th in a time of 17:09, followed by teammate Max Combs in 63rd (17:35).

Fortuna’s Collin Stockwell capped a big week, placing 25th overall in a time of 16:52.

On Wednesday, Stockwell took first at the second H-DNL meet of the season, leading the Huskies to their second team win.
