The College of the Redwoods women closed out their own tournament with a record of 1-1 after falling 64-56 to Hesston College at CR on Sunday.

The Corsairs shot poorly for most of the night and fell behind early to a Hesston team that came out energized and ready to play.

“We did not shoot well today and we felt it,” CR head coach Jain Tuey said.

Bree Northern, Bobbie Purify and Jayden Johnson each hit big some shots for the home team to keep them in the game.

Northern and Johnson each finished with 15 points, including five 3-pointers by Johnson, two of them in the second quarter to cut the visitors’ lead to six at halftime.

Purify finished with 12 points.

“The girls fought hard and finished the game out strong,” Tuey said.

The Corsairs, however, managed just 11-of-23 from the free-throw line.

CR, which opened the weekend with a 74-49 win over Simpson JV on Friday night, is now 4-6.

Next up for the Corsairs is a game against Chabot at the San Jose City College Tournament on Dec. 27.
